Homemade Sewer Smoke Tester

As you may know, James River Air has a team of both commercial and residential plumbers to handle issues like leaking sinks, toilet and water heater replacements, and sewer line cleaning.

One problem we run into is tracing down sewer issues.  One way we can test it is using peppermint extract, but sometimes we need something more sophisticated like a smoke test.

You can spend over a thousand dollars to buy a tool to do this.  One of our commercial plumbers, Bob, had the bright idea to make one in house for a fraction of that!  He had our sheet metal shop fabricate a box for him with a door to put a smoke pellet in, hooked up a spare fan motor he head, and put some insulation on it since it gets warm when operating.  Nice job, Bob!

We're all about finding creative solutions to problems like this that will help our customers.

Women's Career Seminar

Last night we were pleased to have a large turnout for our Women's Career Seminar.  Pictured below is one of our female techs, Lindsay, checking out a unit.  We're going to start a six-week course to teach basic preventive maintenance strategies, troubleshooting, and customer service.  We think this is a great opportunity and were glad that so many people were interested!

Comfort & Safety Interview - NBC12

James River Air President and owner Hugh Joyce was interviewed by NBC 12 news reporter Jennifer Warnick concerning the recent campaign we ran offering to "help as many people as we can".

James River asked people to tell the story of someone who could not afford to fix a heating, electrical or plumbing problem.

See link below for pictures with one of the people helped, Timothy Woodson.   James River Air installed a new heat pump at no charge for Woodson and his wife.  They had been without heat for 3 years.

James River Air at NBC "Call 12"

Yesterday, February 4, 2013, James River Air hosted NBC 12's consumer call in.

Homeowners kept James River's people busy on the phones answering questions about heating, electrical, and plumbing problems.

The special Call 12 provided an encore for James River Air "Comfort & Safety" campaign which asked people to tell the story of someone who could not afford to fix a home services problem. James River has been offering no-cost or low-cost repairs for as many needy families as they can.
